Back in the Saddle

It is one week since my daughters and I returned to Tanzania. We are over the jet-lag and I have about caught up with the office work. Tomorrow is payday and all the salaries are ready to give out, thanks to my friend Arlene Batchelder, who did it for me today. It took her a while to figure out the money here, but now she is a pro!
Maureen Dumser, a teacher from Connecticut, was a magician with the toddler boys, in teaching them. She left a list of things that they, and upcoming toddlers should learn. She also did well in her fundraising and presented me with 1,500 dollars for the babies. Come Back, Maureen!
Ilse, from the Netherlands made a special presentation to the Home, of 5,000 Euro, which is about 8,000 U.S. dollars. 55% is for CoL and 45% is for the new Maternity Waiting Home. What a wonderful blessing that is for us!
We have had SUCH wonderful volunteers, who jump right in and do things, come up with innovative ideas, and are a delight to be around. Thank you all. These are the ones who stay in the apartment.
This week we had at least 10 day volunteers as well. They also help enormously by giving the babies extra attention, and helping in the laundry.
So you can tell, the Home is a place of bustling energy! It is a joy to be back, all refreshed and ready to face the upcoming year (I date a year, by when we take our leave!)
I have put some updated photos of the babies on their individual pages on the website, under "Meet the Babies". I am still missing a photo of Jackson for some reason–will get one taken.
Here is a great photo of Salimu. He is over two years old and not walking yet, but starting to put weight on his legs and be happy about it!. His twin is walking everywhere, but Salimu has mild cerebral palsy.
How is Grace doing? I hope she is feeling better.
I’m organizing a fundraiser at my old high school, so I hope to present you with more funds too! I hope you’ve gotten my emails… let me know what’s up!
I’m glad to hear that there’s finally a known issue with Salimu. I remember discussing if there might be something developmentally wrong with him. It’s unfortunate that we were right but at least you’ll know where to go forward from here.
I’ve really enjoyed the blog updates (even when the get ‘too personal’ according to Brandon). My best wishes to everyone there.
I just received the DVD!!! Thanks so much.
